First up is Nuestros Valses (Our Waltzes), one of the most famous works by Nebrada, the late Venezuelan dancer/choreographer. A playful homage to the waltz, Valses is set to the compositions of fellow Venezuelans Ramón Delgado Palacios and Teresa Carreño. Both artists were born in the mid-19th century. Their songs will be played by pianist Phebe Wusan, who will be providing the only live music that will be heard in this program. Infinity was introduced in 2013 by Perry and serves as an elegant example of the universal nature and appeal of dance. The Israeli-born choreographer cites the rural landscapes of Spanish painter Salvador Dalí for inspiring Infinity, which is set to the adagio movement of Ludwig van Beethoven’s sonata Hammerklavier.

Cal Performances’ popular Berkeley Talks series will present “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening and cartoonist Lynda Barry (Oct. 7), Garrison Keillor (Oct. 23), and playwright Tony Kushner and humorist and author Sarah Vowell (Feb. 21).
